The picture of my daughter and family was taken last summer, but I did not take a whole family one this trip. All too
soon our week of babysitting was over. But we with their family made
one last excursion the weekend we were to leave. On Saturday we drove
south through Tucson and to Benson, Arizona.
Near Benson is Kartchner
State Park. In the park are some very large caves that were discovered
in 1967 and not open to the public but just a few years. The caves
are closed from April through October for the sake of preserving a bat colony.
The other months there are tours, but the numbers are very limited.
Luckily our son in law was able to reserve tickets for us on that Sunday
morning. We drove to Benson on Saturday morning and spent Saturday
afternoon in Tombston, Arizona, then spent the night at a motel in Benson.
the cave tour was spectacular, but unfortunately they did not let anyone
take in cameras and I did not buy slides. I am sure there are pictures
on the internet somewhere.
On Sunday afternoon we headed home on interstate 10. We took interstate 10 to Deming, New Mexico, then
took a shortcut up to Hatch, New Mexico. (didn't get any peppers there, though)
Spent the night in Santa Fe, New Mexico,
then up interstate 25 to Trinidad, Colorado, highway 350 east to Rocky
Ford, then Colorado state highway 71 up to interstate 76 and back to
Nebraska.
I did not take pictures on the way back, but had my pictures developed at Walmart when we got back.
